Coaching Supervision

Coaching Supervision

Reflection, self-awareness and personal development for coaches

Coaching supervision focuses on the coach themselves: how the coach impacts clients, which personal patterns or blind spots influence the work, how the coach responds under pressure, uncertainty or emotional strain, and how professional presence can be maintained over time.

While mentor coaching mainly asks: “How does the coach coach?” coaching supervision also asks: “Who is the coach during the coaching process?”

Why self-reflection is so important in coaching

Even though coaches ideally aim to be conscious, present and supportive companions, they still remain human. Coaches develop personal opinions, react emotionally to certain topics, become triggered by individual clients or situations, or experience forms of countertransference. This is exactly why self-reflection and coaching supervision are so important.

ICF Coaching Supervision

Coaching supervision is understood by the ICF as a reflective process in which coaches further develop their personal, professional and ethical maturity. The focus is not only on coaching techniques, but also on self-awareness, presence, responsibility, ethical questions and the overall quality of one’s work.

Typical topics in coaching supervision

Coaching supervision often explores difficult coaching processes, emotional reactions during coaching, personal triggers, countertransference, insecurity or self-doubt. Topics such as boundaries, role clarity, ethical questions, exhaustion or the development of one’s own coaching style can also be reflected upon.

Why coaches can benefit from supervision

Coaching can be emotionally demanding. Many coaches work independently, carry responsibility for their clients and accompany people through crises, conflicts or intense phases of change.

Coaching supervision creates a protected space for reflection, personal development and professional clarity. It can help deepen self-awareness and confidence, regulate emotional strain more consciously and strengthen the long-term quality of one’s coaching work.

My approach

My approach understands coaching supervision not only as professional reflection, but also as a space for self-experience and personal development.

For more than 20 years, I have been deeply engaged in meditation, mindfulness and inner work. This experience shapes my approach to supervision alongside my medical background and my work as a coach and hypnotherapist since 2008.

The focus is on self-awareness, consciousness, personal patterns and one’s presence in the work with people.

Coaching supervision and renewal of ICF credentials

Up to 10 hours of coaching supervision can currently be counted toward the renewal of ICF credentials (ACC, PCC and MCC).

From January 2027 onward, this will only be recognized if the supervision has been completed with qualified coaching supervisors (CSS or an equivalent recognized supervision accreditation).

At a glance

Coaching supervision supports coaches in their personal, professional and ethical development. Unlike mentor coaching, the primary focus is not on technique, but on the coach themselves: self-awareness, presence, personal patterns and the quality of one’s work with people. The individual supervision sessions take place mainly online and combine ICF-oriented supervision with self-experience and reflective practice.
